ICELA v. Union of India, WP 664/1993 (12 Dec 1994) (Coastal Zone Case)

An interim order enforcing a Ministry of Environment and Forests order that declared coastal stretches of seas, bays, estuaries, creeks, rivers and backwater up to 500 meters from the high tide line, which are influenced by tidal action, are covered as part of the coastal regulation zone. Court directed all States “not to permit the setting up of any industry or the construction of any type on the area at least up to 500 meters from the sea water at maximum high tides.”
