Welcome Hugo Che Piu

We are pleased to introduce ELAW Fellow Hugo Che Piu. Hugo arrived this weekend from Lima, Peru. Hugo is an attorney and the founder of Derecho, Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Law, Environment & Natural Resources, DAR).

ELAW has collaborated with its partners at DAR for almost 20 years!

Hugo is an innovative advocate for transparency in Peru’s forestry sector. He works on combating environmental crimes in the Peruvian Amazon and takes the lead at DAR on governance and policy issues tied to illegal logging, wildlife trafficking, and illegal mining.

Hugo will be in Eugene for 10 weeks to collaborate on his work and study English at the University of Oregon American English Institute (AEI).

Many thanks to AEI for providing Hugo with a Janet Hughes Mersereau Scholarship, and thanks to Lauren Herbert and Kenny Watkins for serving as Hugo’s ELAW Host Family.
