Bernard Ngalim Joins ELAW Legal Team

We are pleased to announce our new hire!

Bernard Ngalim, Africa Program Fellow, brings valuable experience championing human rights in Cameroon and across Africa. His passion is protecting the rights of citizens impacted by extractive industries, infrastructure development, and agribusiness.

In August, Bernard traveled to Guinea where he worked closely with ELAW partners to help protect small-scale farmers from abuses of corporate agriculture and ensure that a proposed bauxite mine does not destroy local ecosystems.

“Defending the rights of disadvantaged communities is challenging in Guinea,” says Bernard. “Access to information is extremely limited. For example, Chinese investors have proposed a bauxite mine, but there is no environmental impact assessment.”

Before joining ELAW, Bernard worked with Forets et Developpement Rural (FODER) to challenge extractive industry abuses in Cameroon and as a pro bono human rights lawyer representing aggrieved workers. He served as a human rights consultant with Africans Rising (Kenya) and the Arch Diocese of Bertoua (Cameroon). He earned a Master of Laws (LLM) specializing in Human Rights at Northeastern University School of Law, a Master of Laws in International Law at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (China), and a law degree (BA) at the University of Yaounde 2 (Cameroon). He is fluent in English and French.

Welcome Bernard!
