He points to important organizations such as the Defending Defenders Coalition, under which ELAW and other NGOs are forming a joint advocacy strategy, and international and regional human-rights mechanisms such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oas.org\/en\/iachr\/\">Inter-American Commission on Human Rights<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/special-procedures\/sr-human-rights-defenders#:~:text=Ms.,defenders%20since%201%20May%202020.\">United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders<\/a>, which protect environmental defenders and advocates.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>Protecting these people, however, is not always easy. &#8220;Because each environmental advocate works in a unique situation, threats against them must be handled on a case-by-case basis,&#8221; says Johnson. &#8220;What helps in one case might do harm in another.&#8221; He says ELAW coordinates with local partners to help people &#8220;reduce their risks and make themselves less attractive targets.&#8221;<\/em><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Learn more about our work and how you can <a href=\"https:\/\/elaw.org\/give\">support ELAW<\/a> by visiting our <a href=\"https:\/\/elaw.org\">website<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/elaw.org\/\">Facebook<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ELAWUS\">Twitter<\/a>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Les d\u00e9fenseurs des violations des droits de l\u2019homme et de l\u2019environnement sont souvent confront\u00e9s \u00e0 des menaces, des intimidations et du harc\u00e8lement.
