Meet ELAW Fellows from Ukraine & Mexico on Tuesday!

We are pleased to introduce our new ELAW Fellows, Kateryna Norenko from Ukraine (on right) and David Linares from Mexico.

Meet Kateryna and David on Tuesday, October 3 from 5-7 p.m. at the Ninkasi Tasting Room. $1 of each pint sold will benefit ELAW’s Fellows Program!

Kateryna is an environmental scientist at the Kyiv office of Environment People Law.  She will work one-on-one with ELAW Staff Attorneys and Staff Scientists to strengthen skills to defend Ukraine’s forests and protected areas. She will learn about best practices for forest management in the U.S. and around the world, and explore model practices for protected areas.

Kateryna has been named a Director’s Distinction Scholar at the University of Oregon’s American English Institute (AEI) where she is enrolled in the 10-week Intensive English Program.

Many thanks to the Trust for Mutual Understanding and AEI for making Kateryna’s Fellowship possible.

David is an attorney in the Southeast office of Centro Mexicano de Derecho Ambiental (CEMDA), based in Cancun. David will work with ELAW staff to protect the Mesoamaerican Reef and the coast of Quintana Roo from desalination plants and other threats to coastal ecosystems. David is also an AEI Director’s Distinction Scholar, enrolled in the Intensive English Program. This is David’s first visit to the U.S.

Many thanks to AEI and Roger de Freitas for making David’s Fellowship possible.

We are excited to share the beauty of the Pacific Northwest with Kateryna and David. If you live in Eugene and are taking a trip to the coast or Cascades, Portland or Seattle, please inquire about our Host Family Program and learn how you can host ELAW Fellows for field trips.

See you on Tuesday at Ninkasi!

Thank you!
